For much of my life, I considered myself not very creative. I studied engineering, and back then, I thought creativity was something exclusive to artists. Like many, I associated creativity with drawing or visual arts and felt that if I lacked talent there, I couldn\u2019t call myself \u201ccreative.\u201d I even considered becoming an architect but decided against it because I felt I couldn\u2019t meet the demands of that skill. Creativity seemed distant and out of reach for me.<\/p>\n

Discovering a New Form of Creativity Through Lingerie Design<\/h2>\n

When I started designing lingerie, I discovered a new form of creativity \u2014 one that went beyond drawing and focused on bringing something to life with my own hands. It was a revealing journey that changed my perspective: creativity is not just an innate talent, it\u2019s a skill we all have and can develop.<\/p>\n

Exposing Our Creativity: The Fears and Joys of Making Something Personal<\/h2>\n

Diving into lingerie design made me realize that creating also meant exposing oneself. My designs reflected a part of me, and showing them to the world involved facing certain fears, especially the fear of judgment. Over time, though, I learned that the joy of seeing my ideas transformed into something real and tangible outweighs those fears. Creating has become an affirmation, a way to express who I am and how I perceive femininity through my designs.<\/p>\n

In my sewing classes, I also encourage this creative exploration. While I teach techniques first, I push my students to take the next step: create a piece that truly reflects their style. Unlike other courses where everyone makes the same model with the same fabric, Sartori Atelier offers options for each student to choose their combination of design and material. I notice many are drawn to classic black as a safe option, so I encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and try something different, experiencing the satisfaction of wearing something uniquely theirs.<\/p>\n

Some students have created amazing combinations, using contrasting fabrics and elastics in ways I would never have imagined. This reminds me how creativity thrives in community, when there is room to experiment and discover without fear. I\u2019ve also seen students who prefer to replicate an existing design, doubting their ability to create something new. In those cases, I guide them and encourage taking that extra step, thinking outside the box and exploring their style and tastes freely.<\/p>\n

For me, it\u2019s incredibly rewarding to see each student gradually finding and expressing their creativity, and how sewing and lingerie design can serve as vehicles for self-discovery and personal expression.<\/p>\n

Creativity isn\u2019t a distant talent reserved for artists; it\u2019s a skill we can develop, express, and explore.
